A loan of $1,900 helped a member to buy a refrigerator for preserving meat.

Los Angeles Group's story

The Communal Bank “Los Angeles” (The Angels) is starting its first loan cycle with Pro Mujer as part of the Villa Exaltación Community Center. The group consists of eight members and is led by a Board of Directors headed by Sra. Celia. The members of the Communal Bank engage in various business activities in order to get ahead such as operating a butcher shop, knitting sweaters, managing a neighborhood store, selling vegetables, selling socks, selling turnovers, and selling livestock.

Sra. Celia says this is the first time she has worked with Pro Mujer. She joined the organization after receiving an invitation from a friend. Celia currently has a business selling meat and has been working for two years.

The loan she is now receiving will be used to buy a refrigerator for preserving meat. This piece of equipment will be purchased in the neighborhood of La Ceja and she will make room for it in her store. Working in this manner enables her to generate income to support her family. Celia is married and has three children.

When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, Celia said she enjoys the health services, the loans, and the savings.
