A loan of $2,900 helped a member to pay school fees for his child.

Idrissa S.'s Group's story

Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT) is a partner of Kiva.org in Makeni city, northern Sierra Leone. Loans are offered to teachers and other salaried workers so as to empower them to buy or invest in things that their salaries cannot let them invest in. For example, some of these teachers can use the loan to buy a plot of land for the future construction of a family house; some will use it to buy pieces of furniture or pay school fees for their children. At the end of each month, their bursar repays SMT/Kiva on their behalf.

Idrissa is the leader of this group of teachers. Born in Kenema 43 years ago, Idrissa is married to a businesswoman and the couple has two children – one in primary school and the other is not of school-going age. Idrissa has requested a loan of 500,000 SLL in order to pay school fees for his child.
