Help We Sef Group's story

Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT), a partner of Kiva.org in Makeni, northern Sierra Leone, is very pleased to present to you members of the “Help We Sef” group. These are small-scale entrepreneurs who have come to SMT/Kiva lenders to seek a loan of SLL 3,500,000 SLL for the entire group in order to invest in their respective businesses.

Fatmata (pictured on the right) is the leader of this group. Fatmata is 45 years old, married with six children, two of whom are attending primary and secondary schools respectively. Fatmata has been selling market food for the past 30 years now. With her share of this loan, she is going to buy beans, onions, tomatoes, Maggi (used to give sauce a sweet taste), etc. to add to her business inventory.
