A loan of $750 helped to buy sacks of natural fertilizer.

Fortunata's story

Fortunata, 41, is a simple, hard-working woman who lives in her own house with her husband, Edgar, 40, and their three dear children for whom they want to provide the best quality of life. Fortunata grows cocoa and coffee. Every day, very early in the morning, she goes out to her plantation to work the fields because she knows the money she obtains at harvest time will depend on the quality of her crops.

What she enjoys most about her work is the harvest season because she feels like after all the months of hard work she is able to reap the benefits. She has been in this trade for 18 years and feels that the most difficult part of it is fumigating since she has to be very careful using the toxic products. She plans to use the loan to buy natural insecticide to keep her land free of plagues. In the future she hopes to grow crops on more of her land to increase her income. This is her fourth loan through MFP. She says the loan will help her get ahead in her work. She is a much loved member of her communal bank since everyone says she is very supportive. She also plans to use the loan to buy natural fertilizer.
