A loan of $375 helped hire workers and buy natural fertilizers.

Gladys's story

Gladys is 51 years old and is married to Aurelio. They have a daughter, Magaly, who is 17 years old. They live together in a house of their own, located in Unión Palomar (Peru's central rainforest). The upper region of Unión is good for growing high-quality grains; its fertile land is well-suited for coffee beans with a good aroma. That is why every weekend she and her husband care for their coffee crops. They have done it for 16 years, and their beans are very well-recognized at the Alto Palomar cooperative, where she sells in every agricultural season. She says that she continually maintains coffee nurseries, with which they renew their old plantations. They now have three thousand plantlings in germination; with these they hope to have new and better beans. She also says that her husband works in a bakery. Every morning, Monday to Friday, he goes very early to a shop where he works; there he makes the rich bread and pastry that delight the residents of their town every morning. This is where he makes extra money, which is how they hope to gather what they need to buy more agricultural land. She belongs to the community bank "Prestatarios de la unión palomar" ("Unión Palomar Borrowers"), and this is her first loan with MFP. She hopes to get ahead with the support of her community bank, those who will work hard to get ahead. She also promises to make her repayments promptly. Gladys, upon receiving your support, will use the loan to hire workers to help her with cleaning, pruning, and cutting on her coffee plantations. She will also buy several bags of natural fertilizers for her nurseries.
