A loan of $550 helped to purchase more livestock to take advantage of the festive season of Santiago.

Elva Teresa's story

Elva is 55 years old and she was widowed 20 years ago. She currently lives with the youngest of her 6 children. Since she was a girl she has always been involved in agriculture. She plants a few vegetables but primarily she cultivates potatoes and corn, which produce the best selling harvest. She works every day but with the passage of the years she has also seen that it is more profitable to buy and sell livestock. This has been a business that she has had for the past 5 years, while she waits for the harvest to be ready. She sells on the weekends at the farmers fair. Whatever she doesn't sell she takes back to her stable and she uses for her own consumption. During these years of work she has seen that the sale of livestock runs fewer risks and earns greater profits. Therefore her goal is to increase her working capital. This is her eighth loan with MPF (Kiva Field Partner). She started out following a recommendation to work with loans so that she will profit from each investment that she makes in the field of livestock sales. Since then she has seen the great importance of having financial support in each project she sets herself out to do. At this opportunity the funds will be used to purchase more livestock because it is during this festive season of Santiago that the sales are most profitable.
