Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $1,100 helped to buy wood.

Abel's story

This member belongs to the "GRANITO DE MOSTAZA" communal bank which is located in the district of Huanchac in the province and department of Cusco.

Mr. Abel, 41, is single and has four children, ages 11, 9, 5 and 4. He is a carpenter by trade and is requesting a loan to buy wood for his business. He has been running a shop for 18 years and he has many customers. He often runs out of wood because of all the orders he has, so he wants to buy wood by the cubic foot, wholesale, in order to avoid this problem.

He is grateful for the loan and committed to paying it back on time.
