A loan of $775 helped to buy pants, T-shirts, blouses, sheets and comforters.

Esther Maribel's story

Jaime Roldos Communal Bank meets every 15 days in the Canton of Jaramijo. This location is known for its scenic beaches that cover the coasts of this beautiful area. The majority of the residents there are very hardworking and are in fishing.

Esther lives in this area and is 34 years old, married, and has four children who are 17, 15, 9 and 5 years old. Three of their children still live with them and the oldest is engaged. Two of their children are in elementary school. Her husband works as a fisherman.

She is a very hardworking woman and in order to help her husband with the challenging task of supporting the family, she works selling all types of clothing, sheets and comforters. She makes her sales door to door and travels all around the city with her merchandise. The majority of her sales are from orders placed by her customers. She works three days per week, selling on credit and collecting payments every eight days. She goes to Guayaquil to buy her merchandise whenever she needs to. She started her business upon joining the communal bank and says that it is going well despite competition.

This loan is for the purchase of pants, T-shirts, blouses, sheets and comforters. She is a founding member of the communal bank and likes it because of the support the loans provide.

Her dream is to continue moving forward in life and in her business.
