Alma is 40 years old, married, and has three grown children who live with her. She is from Dicoloc, Jimenez, Misamis Occidental, Philippines. To support her daily needs, Alma runs a small restaurant from her home. The foods are personally cooked by her, and each month she is able to earn an income of about 2,000 Philippine pesos (PHP).
In 2007, she joined KIva field partner GDMPC so she could access loans. Alma has requested a loan of 30,000 PHP which she intends to use to purchase soft drinks and food items to sell in her restaurant. She hopes that the loan will help her expand her business and allow her to earn more for a better living.
Gata Daku Multi-Purpose Cooperative (GDMPC) was founded in 1992 by 32 farmer-members to empower people by providing livelihood opportunities and other support services. Today, it has over 15,000 members located in upland, lowland and coastal regions of the Philippines, and offers credit, savings, education, and various social services.
