Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. A loan of $675 helped to buy recharge phonecards from various companies.

Christine's story

Christine is 35 years old, single and the mother of two children, aged 12 and 17. Faced with the need to provide for her family, she decided one day to set up a telephone booth. She earns between 40,000 and 60,000 CFA francs per day. Her business strategy is good, because she has a loyal clientele.

After having been granted her first loan, which she has repaid successfully and which enabled her to save up a considerable amount of money, Christine applied for her second loan which she will use to buy recharge phone cards, such as MTN cards for 100,000 francs, Airtel cards for 80,000 francs and Sim cards for 40,000 francs.

Her plans for the future consist in the opening of a store to sell phones and accessories. She will use her profit to continue to provide her children with education.
