A loan of $775 helped to buy 2 dozen of liquid soap, 50 GSM rechargeable phone cards, and 25 cases of beverages.

Julienne's story

Julienne is married and the mother of five children who are all in school and doing well in their studies. Our client resides with her husband and her small family. Household expenses are the couple's responsibility. Julienne is a seamstress by training; concurrently she sells liquid soap, rechargeable GSM phone cards, beverages from SOBEBRA, ice, and bissap, a refreshing beverage made locally (from hibiscus flowers) and very popular with children and even adults.

To have substantial revenues, Julienne has included with all these businesses the sale of food. She has a large customer base composed of households in and around her area. She makes her purchases at Tokpa, the largest market in Benin.

She is now on her second loan which she requested and obtained at the micro-finance institution FINADEV to increase her business capital in order to diversify her businesses further. The extra revenues generated by this micro-loan will enable Julienne to be financially independent and to cover family expenses.
