A loan of $1,100 helped to purchase cell phones and spare parts.

Oumar's story

Oumar is 27 years old, single and a father of one, living with his parents in the Médina Coura district of the city of Koutiala (Sikasso region).

Due to social circumstances, Oumar wasn’t able to continue past elementary school, and he was quick to pursue other income-generating activities with his father. For three years, Oumar has been self-employed. He is very sought-out and appreciated by his customers, because cell phones are a major necessity for people in Mali today.

Oumar turned to the Soro Yiriwaso MFI only two years ago, hoping to better satisfy his customers. He is currently on his third individual loan, and his previous two loans were paid back without any problems. With this loan, he plans on purchasing 10 cell phones, as well as spare parts, in Bamako. He sells for cash to a varied clientele from his stall in Médina Coura, along the paved road.

With this loan, he expects to make a monthly profit of 100,000 CFA francs. He will use this to cover his needs, and invest any remaining funds back into his business.

In the future, he hopes to grow his business to attract more customers.
