Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

Maylinda's story

Maylinda is 30 years old and married. She is from Jimenez, Misamis Occidental, Philippines. She has lovingly and patiently taken good care of her 5 school-aged children. Maylinda, together with her husband, has been selling lumber for 5 years. The couple is gradually acquiring business related facilities to improve the services offered. The business gives a monthly cash inflow of PHP 20,000.

Maylinda has to sustain her livelihood as it is the sole source of income for the household. In 2008, she became an official GDMPC member. This loan, amounting to PHP 50,000, is the 13th loan application she has had with GDMPC. She intends to purchase lumber supplies to update her service offerings. Maylinda hopes to produce a variety of lumber supplies for sale and to innovate the business sales area.
