Bernadette's story

Bernadette is a widow who supports four children, who are all in school. She lives in her husband's family home and receives a widow's pension. A restauranteur, she sells food to students at the Collège de l'Enseignement Général ENTENTE (a middle school) during the school year. During vacation time, she sells food in her district. She gets her supplies of rice and bean from Tokpa, the international market of Benin. The condiments and other accessories are purchased each day from the nearest market. She is now on her eighth loan at the micro-finance institution FINADEV.

Because of growth and the requirements of her customers, Bernadette decided to renew her loan with FINADEV to satisfy a large number of her customers. From this loan, she envisions making revenues that will help her to ensure her children's survival and to offer nicer conveniences at home for her family.
