Doña Maria is a surgical technician who works in a hospital in the capital city. She has two school-aged children and her husband is a salesman. Her goal is to finish her house which requires the drywall, a roof and flooring, but she is content to be able to do a little each day. She is also happy about finishing her education because of the benefits to the family. It took a lot of effort to earn her degree. Through Afodenic she was able to buy the expensive books she needed.

She plans to use the loan to buy zinc sheeting, sand, cement, supports, screws and pay for the work. She hopes to be able to move into the new house soon with the family, which is their greatest wish.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
