A loan of $1,100 helped to buy perfume, cream, cosmetics, clothes and telephone cards.

Felisa Magaly's story

The Camino Al Progreso [Road to Progress] community bank meets every two weeks in the Montecristi canton. It is known for its rich pre-colonial tradition and for its artisanal crafts at the national and international level. It is where the famous paja toquilla hats come from.

This is where Felisa lives. She is 32 years old. She is married and has four children, aged 15, 13, 10 and 7. The two oldest go to high school and the youngest are in elementary school. Her husband is a bricklayer.

She is a housewife who to make her own income sells clothes via catalogue, Avon products (beauty products, cosmetics, perfume, and women's accessories ) as well as telephone cards. She works weekends, selling her products on credit and collecting every Sunday. She receives the products in her home. She has been doing this activity for ten years and it is going very well for her. What she sells the most are mens and women's perfume, which are very good.

This loan is to buy perfume, creams, cosmetics, clothes and telephone cards. This is her sixth cycle in the community bank and she likes it because the payments are easy to make.

Her dream is to see her children finish their studies.
