A loan of $525 helped to buy boxes of "naranjillas".

Liliana Elizabeth's story

Liliana is a young woman who is 31 years of age. She is single and has a son who is 1½ years old. Liliana lives with her parents and siblings in the canton of Santo Domingo. The climate in this area is warm and humid, which is why there is a high level of fruit production. Nearly everyone in the province of Santo Domingo de Los Tsáchilas produces or sells fruit.

Two years ago Liliana began selling “naranjillas”, an exotic fruit that comes from this region. Her work is difficult because she has to start at dawn by buying what she will sell, which requires carrying heavy boxes. For this reason, she pays a young man to help her with this work. Liliana is worried about the health of her young son who has suffered from a few ailments in his short life, so she wants to improve her income in order to provide for his needs. She wants to invest in boxes of fruit to sell. By purchasing more boxes, the unit price is less and she will be able to generate more income.

Liliana is very interested in her son’s health and providing for his education. She dreams of having her own home and seeing that her son lacks nothing.
