A loan of $1,075 helped to buy tires and to reupholster his taxi.

José Ramón's story

José is a 43-year-old married man living with his wife, Ana, 34, and their two children who are 13 and 15 years old. He lives in the Santo Domingo municipal seat and he owns a taxi. His wife is a housewife dedicated full time to caring for the children.

He started working as a taxi driver five years ago. With much effort he was able to pay the membership fee to join a taxi cooperative which is expensive in Ecuador. He works from very early in the morning, from about 7am until 6pm. His cooperative is very centrally located near the public recorder’s office so customers are plentiful. But, José car is showing signs of wear and it’s time to replace the tires and reupholster the interior so that he can stay in business and provide good customer service.

He dreams with having a small transportation firm. He wants to continue to work in this sector and believes that although being a taxi driver implies risk he enjoys his work very much and above all strives every day to provide better service to his customers.
