A loan of $550 helped to buy more animals.

Silvia's story

Silvia is 39, and lives with her husband and their 2 children in her home. They consider themselves to be a very united family. Silvia works raising and selling animals. She has been engaged in this activity for 13 years; she has set up a stable by her house for her animals where she fattens them until they reach an exact weight. Later she takes them to the livestock market in her area. In addition, she has farmland where she mostly cultivates alfalfa, which she feeds to her animals and also sells. In her work, she always has the help of her children; they are in charge of cutting the alfalfa and caring for the animals. Silvia enjoys this work because it allows her to be independent and in control of her time, and this motivates her to continue working hard in these activities. "I appreciate being a part of a group of people where everyone treats each other like family," she comments, because over the years of working as a group with MFP, her communal bank has overcome a number of obstacles. This bank has already been through 12 loan cycles, and everyone has demonstrated punctuality in their payments. As always, she has the good habit of investing her money in her business by purchasing more animals.
