A loan of $675 helped to purchase plastic kitchen utensils, bowls, baskets, cups and buckets.

Olga Marie Adelaïde's story

This lady is 44 years old with four children between 17 and 25 years old, three of whom attend school. In 1996, after third grade, she began selling plastic goods, using startup capital of 12,000 FRS. Today, her daily takings range from 15,000 to 40,000 FRS.

She would use this loan to boost her business by purchasing plastic kitchen utensils such as bowls, baskets, cups, buckets and laundry baskets. She sources her goods from the capital's main markets and sometimes from Kinshasa. Her strategy is to sell at reasonable prices to draw in customers from their nearby homes. In the future she would like to generate significant profits and put some savings aside in order to provide for her children's future and education.
