A loan of $375 helped to buy and sell products.

Isabel's story

Isabel was born in 1972 in Tete, which is in central Mozambique. She grew up and went to elementary school in the town where she was born. She got married and has a daughter. Because her husband's salary did not cover the household expenses, she had to begin working very early to support her family, and so she never returned to school.

Searching for better living conditions, they moved to Maputo, where she worked for a long time as a cashier at a hardware store that later went bankrupt and closed its doors. She had to begin a business with her own money so she could feed herself and her little daughter. Now she is the owner of a small store where she sells groceries. Through her friends, Isabel heard about Hluvuku, which she approached, and she has benefited from four loans. They were for expanding her store, and the first loan was for diversifying her products. With the loan she will receive now, she will be able to buy products like soft drinks, beer, sugar, crackers and sacks of plums. With this 10,000 loan, she will buy basic items.

Isabel's personal projects for the future are to expand this store and open a bar so she can sell drinks, but to do this she will need more loans. Finally, she is grateful for the support Hluvuku and Kiva have given her.
