A loan of $675 helped buy fish, vegetables, and other seafood.

Paula Lorena's story

The members of the communal bank La Unión Hace La Fuerza Del Pechiche meet bimonthly in the Rocafuerte canton. This place is known all over the country for its delicious sweets prepared by the locals.

This is where Señora Paula lives. She is 46 years old and has three children with her common law husband. Two of her children are adults and the third is 17 years old and is attending school. Her husband is a farmer. This is her fourth loan cycle with the communal bank. She likes the loans because they help her financially. Ten years ago she decided to start her own business selling seafood and vegetables to help her children with their studies and help her husband cover the household expenses. She works every Sunday in the Rocafuerte market where she has a small stand. The other days of the week she sells fish out of her house. She buys the fish on the Crucita beaches or in Los Arenales.

She will use this loan to buy fish, vegetables, and other seafood. Her dream is to have a well-built house.
