Joyas Del Pacífico Group's story

This communal bank is called “Joyas del Pacífico” ["Jewels of the Pacific"]. It is made up of 18 entrepreneurs, who dedicate themselves to diverse types of businesses, including pastry making, hairdressing, fast food preparation, leather handicrafts, bakery, general store, kiosk, butcher shop, woven fabric sales, dog food, frozen products, new clothing sales, and used clothing and woven fabric sales, All of them live in the city of Valparaíso.

Jacqueline, the president of the communal bank, can be seen in the second row of the group, with black hair and wearing a light purple sweater with a brown scarf. She has worked providing hairdressing services for 4 years. The way her business works is that she serves her customers at their homes, although one day a week she works in her own home, where customers can come to her directly without needing to make an appointment. On weekends she also provides services in her home, styling customers' hair for special occasions.

She buys her supplies at shopping centers and from beauty product liquidators. With the loan, she will buy a heater, a gas connection and supplies for her business.

Her goal is to have a permanent shop where she can install her beauty salon. Jacqueline has studied hairstyling, and she specialized in haircuts for women and men.

Jacqueline lives with her husband and her two daughters, aged 24 and 14, in addition to her son-in-law and her 10-month-old grandson.

She is motivated to continue with her business because she enjoys what she does very much. She is very happy and grateful for the services provided by the Fondo Esperanza [Hope Fund], and she enjoys the camaraderie with the other group members, since they also respect the institution's values. She comments that the training sessions and the loan have been a great help for her business.
