Lilibeth's story

Lilibeth is 29 years old and she sells clothing, skin products, and natural medicines. She has her business in her own home, where she lives with her husband and their 6-year old son. She started out her business 10 years ago, having learned from her mother. At that time she had her business in Sincelejo, capital city of the department of Sucre, located in the north east of the country, on the Columbian coast to the Caribbean. It was a location to where she traveled frequently. Lilibeth started out under her mother's encouragement and by applying her experience in the city of Barranquilla. She started her market strategy and she started out the business which she still has and it represents an important source of income with which she is able to help her husband with the support of the household. Lilibeth has added new lines of products, such as ladies' clothing and it has done very well with her clients. But her working capital is still not enough to respond in a timely manner to her buyers. She applies for a first time Kiva loan through Fundacion Mario Santo Domingo (Kiva Field Partner). With it she will purchase jeans, sweaters, and sandals in larger volumes in order to qualify for volume and cash discounts.
