A loan of $1,100 helped to pay farm workers.

Juan's story

Juan is 46, calm and hard-working. He lives in his own house with his wife who is 44 years old, Fermina, and three children. When Juan was young he worked in his father's fields, but 18 years ago he acquired a 3-hectare farm planted in cacao and coffee. His success stems from his creativity and hard work, and he has benefitted from technical training as well. Cacao is his most sought-after crop, for the high quality he produces, and generates strong profits. Juan generally works alone, but in times of harvest he hires day laborers on the farm to gather ripe fruit. He plans to use this credit to hire workers in the June to November harvest period, allowing him to expand production and better his family's prospects. This is his first credit, and with the 3,000 nuevos soles he will hire workers to clear the fields and bring in the harvest.
