Nelly Cecilia's story

Mrs. Nelly is a member of the La Gran Amistad communal bank. She lives in the Cumbe parish. This area has a cold climate and a beautiful view of nature. The residents are very kind and maintain the culture and traditions of their forefathers. They work in trade, raise animals, or in agriculture. Many go to the city of Cuenca to work every day. Mrs. Nelly is 34, married, and she and her husband have 3 children ages 13, 12 and 8. Her two oldest daughters are in high school and the youngest, a son, attends a local elementary school. Her husband is a baker. They do not have their own home as they rent. Mrs. Nelly works in a store and bakery which is her own property. She has had this business for nine years and works every day of the week from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm. She has been a member of the communal bank for 7 years and she will invest this new loan in the purchase of flour, butter, eggs, yeast, sugar, salt, etc., for her bakery. Her dream is to have her own house.
