A loan of $900 helped to buy pork meat and pigs.

María Cecilia's story

Maria is a member of the communal bank "La Gran Amistad." She lives in Cumbe parish, a place with a cold climate and a beautiful view of nature. The people there are very friendly and maintain their culture and the traditions of their parents; they work in retail trade, livestock and agriculture, and many of them go out each day to work in the city of Cuenca.

Maria is 46 years old, married, and has 8 children. Five of her children are married and independent, and her 3 youngest children are ages 18, 15, and 10. Her 18 year-old daughter works to cover her personal expenses. Her 15 year-old is in school, and her youngest daughter is in a small school in the city. Her husband works driving his own bus. The house that they live in is their own property.

Maria has been working selling pork meat for 15 years. She does this work daily from 8am until 8 at night. In her house, she raises pigs and hens that she sells in her community.

Maria has been in her communal bank for 15 years, and she will use the money from this new loan to buy pork meat and pigs so that she can continue with her business.

Her goal is to continue to grow her business.
