A loan of $900 helped to buy school supplies, paper, sodas, juices, etc.

Ana Mercedes's story

In Crucita parish in the canton of Portviejo, we find a place known as "Los Arenales." Here the members of the communal bank "Nueva Generacion" meet every 15 days. This place is known for its beautiful beaches, its cuisine and the quality of its people. Here we meet Ana, who is 55 and is in a common-law marriage. Ana has 8 children who are all adults. Three of them still live in her house, and the youngest is studying at the university. Her husband is a bricklayer. Our friend has a stationery store and copier in her home where she sells school supplies as well as water, ice cream, sodas, juices and some sweets and snacks. She tells us that her business is close to a school, and she takes advantage of this to sell to the students at that campus. She has had this business for 15 years, and it has been improving, thanks to the loans she has invested in it. This loan will be used to buy school supplies, paper, sodas, juices, and other items. She has been in her communal bank since the group's second loan cycle, and she likes it because of the other loans that the institution provides. Her dreams are to continue working and improving her business.
