A loan of $1,075 helped to buy merchandise for his grocery store.

Julio Olmedo's story

Julio has a grocery store in Santo Domingo de los Tsachilas in the Santo Domingo canton. He is 33 years old, and he lives alone in the Puerto Limón parish. Don Julio, as he is called in the neighborhood, came to the Fundación Alternativa to request a loan. He wishes to buy more supplies for his store. That way he will expand the variety of products he offers his community.

Julio has a humble life, but he tells us that he enjoys his peace and quiet. His store stays open for night hours. His daily work day is at least 15 hours. Some years ago he suffered and accident while working as a field worker on a plantation. A stick hit his right eye causing an irreversible lesion and total loss of vision.

This has not been an obstacle because Juio continues his passion for sports. He currently plays volleyball with a group of friends. Also, he is the goalkeeper for a neighborhood soccer team.

Julio dreams of having his own house with a commercial space. Maybe he will have his own family in the future.
