A loan of $3,650 helped a member to buy chickens.

Maluay De Curiquinga (Cuenca) Group's story

The "Maluay de Curiquinga" community bank is made up of 12 hard-working, tenacious and very cheerful women. Our members work daily to get their families ahead in life and improve the financial situation of their households. They live in the community of Maluay which is located in El Valle parish. This parish is well known for the beauty of its landscape. The local people work in commerce, animal raising and farming. Many also work in different parts of the city of Cuenca.

One of the members of this group is María Eugenia who lives in Maluay community. She is 24 years old, married, and has two daughters aged 3 and 1 from her marriage. Her husband works as a builder and they own the house in which they live.

María Eugenia looks after her children who are still very young. However, there are occasions when people call on her to wash clothes for them. She has been doing this for four years.

This is María Eugenia's first loan as a member of her community bank, which she was invited to join by her mother-in-law. She will use this loan to buy chickens to start out in this business. Her dreams are to be successful in her projects, to grow in her chicken-raising business and to get her daughters ahead in life.

In this group: María Sandra, María Eulalia, Teresa De Jesús, Janneth María, Narcisa Jesús, María Consolación, Irene Miriam, Patricia Piedad, María Eugenia, Rosa Aurora, Blanca Arcelia, Clara Piedad
