A loan of $550 helped a member to buy lemon and avocado crops.

Davila Group's story

The “Dávila” group is composed of four hard working, enterprising people. The coordinator is Meyling Francisca who is a fruit merchant. When she started out about eight years ago she started buying fruit by the pound. Now, she buys entire crops of tamarind, mangoes, jocote (common names include Red Mombin, Purple Mombin, Hog Plum, Sineguela, and Siriguela), mamón (Spanish lime), etc.

She has three children, a ten-year-old, a five-year-old and an 8-month-old baby, that she works very hard for together with her husband and father-in-law. On this occasion she’ll buy lemons and avocadoes.

The other group members are Modesta Francisca, 19, Milagro de Jesús, 37, and Alba, 30, who are merchants selling seasonal fruit and vegetables.
