A loan of $550 helped to buy perfumes, creams, cosmetics and underwear.

Dellanira Del Rosario's story

Every two weeks, the members of the 'Madres para un Futuro Mejor' (Mothers for a Better Future) community bank meet in 24 de Mayo canton, in Manabí province. This area is known for its beautiful landscape, its woods, its wide variety of fauna and for its kind and hard-working people who farm and raise livestock.

Here we meet 45 year-old Dellaneira who is married and has four children. Three of her children are already grown up and her youngest [daughter] is 17 years old. Our friend's two youngest daughters still live with her and are studying at university. Her husband is a builder.

Seeing that the money her husband was bringing home wasn't enough to cover their household expenses and their daughters' education expenses, our friend decided two years ago to start her own business selling underwear and Avon products (beauty products, cosmetics, perfumes and ladies' accessories). She works three days a week and her daughters help by selling products to their classmates. She leaves her products with her customers on credit and collects payment every week. She tells us that what she sells the most of are perfumes and cosmetics.

Dellaneira will use this loan to buy perfumes, creams, cosmetics and underwear. She has been a member of her community bank for eight years and she tells us that the group are like her family and that she is very happy for the help they have given her.

Dellaneira's dream is to see her daughters become professionals and enjoy a good future.
