A loan of $550 helped to purchase five windows.

Letty María's story

The Communal Bank “Puerto Real” meets every 15 days in the city of Portoviejo, the capital of Manabí. Portoviejo has been known for many years as the city of “Los Reales Tamarindos” because of the large quantity of tamarind fruit that is produced during this time of year.

It is in this place that one can meet Letty. She is 43 years old, single, and lives with her mother. Letty is the owner of a building that has floors for rent. She has used the loans to invest in repairs of the various floors so that she can make them more comfortable for her tenants and generate more revenue. With the loan she will receive, Letty will replace a few windows that have deteriorated on two floors that are vacant. She hopes that making the repairs will allow her to rent them out quickly at a very good price.

This loan will be invested in the purchase of five glass windows so that her tenants will have greater comfort and security. Letty has been with the Communal Bank for four loan cycles and enjoys being a member because the interest rates are lower than traditional banks.

Her goals include making repairs to all of the floors in her building as soon as possible.
