A loan of $1,200 helped to purchase a sewing machine.

Maria Isabel's story

Maria Isabel is a 38 year old woman who lives with her husband and three children (12,16, and 19 years old) in a small community called Trinchera de Pital, located in the Alajuela province. The main economic activities in the area are livestock and agriculture, especially cultivation of pineapples, which are mainly sold internationally. For this reason, community development has grown in the last few years, generating a larger demand for products and services, and providing people with more opportunities for work.

She works making clothes for all types of people. She sells her sewing to her neighbors in the community, who are satisfied with the quality.

Currently, Maria Isabel is asking for a loan of 600,000 colones to purchase a sewing machine. With this investment, she hopes her small business will grow, so that she can serve more customers and offer them better clothing items. All of this will help her improve the quality of her life.

Maria Isabel is a member of the community bank Mujeres al Éxito [Women for Success] in Trinchera de Pital, one of the 110 member organizations of EDESA in Costa Rica. This will be her second loan, and with it she hopes she can continue growing personally and financially, as well as participate actively in organizing loans in her community.
