Pictured here are members of the “God Day Gee” group from Kenema, a city in eastern Sierra Leone. They are businesspeople who have come to SMT, a partner of Kiva, in order to seek a loan of 800,000 Sierra Leons leones (SLL) for each in the group. With this loan, they will be able to add more goods to their businesses, attract more customers, make more sales and profit and consequently, improve their living conditions.

The leader of this group of entrepreneurs is Mariama. Mariama is 35 years old and was born in the Pujehun district. She is married and has five children. Her husband is a trader, and four of her children are attending primary and secondary school. Mariama has been selling baby clothes, cotton cloths, bed sheets, etc., for eight years now. With her share of this loan, she is going to buy the aforementioned items in large quantities to add to her business.
