A loan of $3,300 helped a member to buy chickens.

Pauteñitas (Cuenca) Group's story

The Pauteñitas Communal Bank is comprised of 12 members who live in the canton of Paute. This canton is a major flower producer and the sector offers a wide variety of its own gastronomy. Its people are engaged in trade, agriculture, and raising animals. Our members are struggling, hard-working women. They work day to day in various activities that enable them to improve their household finances and help their families get ahead.

One of the members is Jessica. She is 35 years old and lives in the canton of Paute. She is in a common-law relationship and has 2 children, ages 17 and 15, who are students at the city school. Our member is very happy as she is 8 months pregnant. Her husband works in construction. They do not have their own home because they live on a farm where they work.

At present, Jessica is working at the farm, caring for her children, and raising hens for consumption and sale.

Her friend invited her to join the communal bank and she is in her third loan cycle with the institution. She will use the funds from the loan to buy chickens to start this business.

Her goal is to increase the number of animals she is raising.

The attached photos are of three members that could not be present when the group photo was taken because they were working.
