Pacifica's story

Pacifica is a member of the communal bank named "Las Orquideas", meaning "The Orchids". It is located in Calleria, in the department of Ucayali. She is 62 years old, married, and she has 5 children. They are all grown and independent.

To start up her business she needed to access a loan from Manuela Ramos (Kiva Field Partner). Loans are granted to women like her, who want to start up a business.

She is one of the founding members of the communal bank and she sell fast foods in the evenings.

She has had to remodel the patio of her house to be able to sell from there without any difficulty. With her new loan, amounting to S/. 1500, she will purchase: 2 sacks of charcoal, 2 new fountains, 4 bottles of chili, 1 dozen drinking glasses, 6 one-half liter pitchers.

Every evening she set outs to sell her products alone. Her husband is a merchant and like any other family, he supports the household. But she is also able to earn an income for other expenses. It is thanks to Manuela Ramos that she has been able to work tirelessly. She is able to support her children while they complete their schooling. It is the only inheritance she is able to leave them.
