A loan of $1,250 helped a member to buy rice, noodles, sugar, etc.

Vicuñas De Oro Group's story

The “Vicuñas de Oro” (Golden Vicuñas) communal bank will start its first cycle in Pro Mujer as part of the Los Andes Focal Center. It has six members led by a governing board headed by Claudina. The members are engaged in a variety of businesses. Among them are: eatery, blanket weaving, mirror sales, bricklaying, carpentry and fried pork production.

Claudina indicates that this is the first time she’s worked with Pro Mujer and that she joined the institution thanks to an invitation from one of the promoters. She currently has a business selling food that she started two years ago and that she learned from her mother.

The loan she’ll take out now is to increase capital; she will purchase noodles, rice, sugar, etc. at wholesale in La Ceja and 16 de Julio market. Once she makes the food she’ll sell it at a minibus stop. This way of working allows her to generate family income because she’s single and has three children.

When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she replies that she likes the credit and health training.

In this group: Claudina Virginia , Gladys, Jhonny , Sofia, Sonia Carmen , Petrona
