A loan of $1,150 helped to buy an industrial serger (kind of sewing machine) and other supplies.

Mercedes's story

51-year old Mercedes Ramírez lives in the town of Cartagena and has four children aged 13 to 29. She is a native of Puerto Leguizamón in Putumayo department, a part of the Amazon region of Colombia, but came to Cartagena with her parents. It was here that she met her husband and had her children.

She started her business after she separated from her husband and began studying design and sewing. She decided to put all her efforts into helping her family get ahead by means of her own business called “Confecciones Mercedita”.

Her future goal is to have a permanent place in which to show her designs, but a big problem is the lack of capital to achieve this. For this reason she approached the Mario Santo Domingo Foundation for her first loan. With the money she plans to buy an industrial serger (kind of sewing machine) and other supplies so she can increase production and start on the road to fulfilling her dream.
