A loan of $1,175 helped a member to pay his mother’s medical bills and buy some household items.

Bockarie B.'s Group's story

These borrowers are secondary school teachers in Kenema city. The school was founded in September 2002 to improve education in the community. Teachers of this noble institution have come to SMT, a partner of Kiva.org in Makeni, northern Sierra Leone, to seek a loan.

This is the first loan that teachers of this school have recevied from SMT/Kiva lenders. They have requested a loan of SLL 5,000,000.00 for the entire group. With the help of this loan, these teachers are in a better position to buy or invest in something that their mere salaries cannot let them do.

Bockarie is the leader of the group. Bockarie is thirty-three. He was born in a place call Koya. Bockarie is married and has two children – one in primary school and the other is not of school age. He has been in the teaching profession for nine years now. He has requested this loan to pay his mother’s medical bills and to buy some household items.

In this group: Bockarie B. , Regina, Charles S. , Mariama , Bockarie A.
