Simon is 46 years old and has been in mixed farming for the last 25 years. He produces coffee, eggs, tea, and milk. He is married with three children between 14 and 4 years old. He has employed one farmhand on his farm.
Simon has requested a loan of 80,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to enable him to expand his poultry unit and purchase more poultry birds. He says the increased income will enable him to educate his children. This is Simon's second loan request. Fluctuation in market prices is the major challenge in Simon's farming business. He, however, remains very optimistic that his Juhudi loan will have a positive impact.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
