A loan of $675 helped buy perfumes, costume jewelry, cosmetics, creams and purses.

Kathy Gioconda's story

In the province of Manabí we find the 24th of May village, which is where the San José cooperative bank meets. This area is known for its beautiful scenery and for its hard-working residents that primarily dedicate themselves to farming and raising animals.

It is here that we meet Katty, 38 years of age and in a common-law marriage from which she has four children ages 17, 15, 14 and 5. The oldest finished school this year but wasn’t able to enroll at the university, and the others are still in school. Her husband is a teacher at a school in the area.

She is a very hard-working woman and, due to her great desire to get ahead, she decided to sell Sayson products (beauty products, perfumes, and costume jewelry). About a year ago, she also started selling purses, which she does at the same time she’s selling her other products. She tells us that she works every day and that she delivers her products on credit and charges every fifteen days. She takes advantage of offers to buy more cheaply and then sell at retail with which she earns extra money.

She will use this loan to buy perfumes, costume jewelry, cosmetics, creams and purses. She has been in the cooperative bank for three cycles, and she enjoys it because the discussions help her a lot in her daily life.

Her goal is to continue forward with her sales.
