A loan of $675 helped to purchase bread, ground meat, sausages, soft drinks, etc.

María Vanessa's story

The members of the communal bank named "San Valentin" meet every two weeks in the city of Portoviejo. It is the capital city of Manabi and for many years it has been known as the city of the true tamarinds.

Maria is the founding member of the communal bank and she is the payment official. She appreciates it because the interest rates are lower from other lending institutions. She is 28 years old and she is married common law. She has two children, aged 11 and 4. The eldest is in school and the youngest is in kindergarten. Her husband is a sales agent.

She is a very good house wife and she helps her husband with the household expenses. Every day in the afternoon she sells hamburgers and hot dogs. She has a cart from where she sells her snacks, working every day from 3pm to 8pm. She tells us that she has been in business for more than four years and it has gone very well. On special occasions and almost every Saturday she relocates to where dances are being held because she is able to sell many of her products and she even stays until later at night.

The loan is to purchase bread, ground meat, sausages, soft drinks, and other necessary products for her business.

Her dream is to have a large restaurant from where to sell her products.
