A loan of $1,100 helped to buy plastic containers for packaging her products.

Nancy Elizabeth's story

The town of Mejía is located a few kilometers away from the city of Portoviejo. It is here that the Communal Bank “Las Divinas de Mejía” meets every 15 days. Most of the people in this town engage in agriculture, growing and selling coconuts.

It is in this place that one can meet Sra. Nancy. She is 44 years old, in a common-law marriage, and has no children. Her husband is a merchant.

Nancy and her husband raise honeybees. They also have a laboratory where they make products out of honey such as royal jelly, royal jelly cream, shampoo, and other products. Their products are delivered to natural product stores throughout the city and the entire country. Nancy says she works Monday through Saturday. She receives help from three employees who are paid a monthly salary. Nancy has been in business for more than 20 years.

This loan will be used to buy plastic containers for packaging her products. Nancy is the founder of the Communal Bank and enjoys the support that her fellow group members have given her. Her dream is to increase production and sales.
