A loan helped a member to buy pigs and animal feed.

Mujeres Con Desición (Cuenca) Group's story

The communal bank "Mujeres con Decisión" is comprised of 12 hard-working, charismatic women who work in different business activities to contribute to their household economy and help their families get ahead. They live in different parts of the city of Cuenca, which is the third largest in the country. Its people maintain the culture and traditions, and are kind and agreeable.

One of the members is Mrs. Rosa who lives on the outskirts of the city of Cuenca. She is 57, married and has eight children, six of whom are married and independent. The next to the last son works to cover his own expenses and the youngest daughter is studying at an academy to be a seamstress. Her husband is a merchant and they live with one of their daughters.

Rosa sells grains for a living. She has been in business for ten years, working only on the weekends. jAt home she raises chickens and guinea pigs for family consumption and to sell.

She has been in the communal bank for four years and plans to use this new loan to buy pigs and animal feed.

Her goal is to expand her animal raising business.
