María Esperanza's story

Mrs. María is a member of the communal bank Divino Niño Jesús. She lives in the city of Cuenca which has a cold climate, but warm-hearted people. It was named a World Heritage Site in 1999 for its architectural beauty.

Maria is 32, and a single mother of four children, ages 16, 12, 9 and 7. Her eldest son is in highschool and the younger three in the local elementary school. She lives in rental property.

For eight years María has been selling food. She works Sunday to Sunday, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. This is her third loan through the communal bank and she plan to use it to buy food ingredients for her business.

Her dream is to have her own house one day.
