A loan of $4,825 helped a member to buy materials to complete his house construction.

Abraham Brim's Group's story

Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT), a partner of Kiva in Makeni, northern Sierra Leone, is very pleased to present to you this group of teachers from Mile Ninety One, a small town in northern Sierra Leone. Their school was founded in 1974 to promote education to the children of Mile Ninety One and the surrounding villages. Currently, the school is staffed with 29 teachers and has an enrollment of 450 pupils.

Abraham is a teacher at the school and is the leader of this group of borrowers. He is 50 years old and was born in Magburaka, a town in northern Sierra Leone. Abraham is married with six children and has been in the teaching profession for 25 years. He is requesting a loan to buy construction materials, including bags of cement, to complete the construction of his house.

Staff from this institution, like many other institutions within SMT’s area of operation, come to SMT to apply for loans. At the end of each month, these teachers can repay the loan out of their monthly salaries. Their institution’s bursar is directly responsible for deducting the repayment amount and paying SMT on their behalf.
