Tanous is a 57-year-old married man from Lebanon, living with his wife and two young children who are still attending school. Despite his older age, he has been working as a taxi driver for the past 20 years. He operates a student van service in his town as well as in his neighboring villages. He also transports private clients upon their requests. Today, he is requesting to borrow $1,200 from Kiva partner Ameen s.a.l to perform the needed maintenance on his van such as updating the paint, repairing the engine, etc. In the future, he is planning to purchase a new van and hire a part-time employee to work on it.
Due to political and social challenges in Lebanon, personally identifiable attributes entrepreneurs may have been altered to protect their privacy (i.e., blurring portions of the borrower's picture, not indicating a name and location, etc.). Vitas appreciates Kiva lenders' understanding of these challenges and encourages them to continue their support for Lebanon's borrowers.
