Bertha Amalia's story

Bertha is a member of the Communal Bank “Virgen de La Asunción” which is located in the District and Province of Yunguyo, Department of Puno. She is 39 years old and a single mother with three children. Bertha has an elementary school education.

She has worked with Manuela Ramos for three years. Her first loan was in the amount of 500 PEN and the money was invested in her business of selling clothes. She also sells motorcycles, accessories, vegetables, and fruits at the fairs in her town.

Bertha is requesting a new loan of 3000 PEN so that she can buy two motorcycles to sell later in Desaguadero, Ilave, or Yunguyo. She works alone in business, but occasionally she receives help from another woman.

Her dream is to continue with her business and improve her income. What she likes about the Communal Bank are the meetings with the other members and the convenience of the loan.
