A loan of $450 helped a member to buy brush making supplies.

Escogidas Group's story

The “Las Escogidas” (The Chosen Ones) group is composed of three hard working, enterprising women. One of them is Rosa Adelia, 33, who has been manufacturing brushes to wash clothes and polishing brushes for the last 7 years. She started the business in order to be able to spend more time with her children who are 13, 10 and 7 years of age. She will use the loan to buy raw materials like: handles, wire, wood, nylon, bristles, etc.

The other group members are María Alicia, 56 and Iris Nubia, 51. María works as a domestic employee and in her free time would help a relative that sells firewood. Seeing that this is a profitable business she used some savings to buy a horse and a cart, hired a helper, and started her business. Iris sells tortillas, baked goods and flour bread. She learned this from her grandmother and started the business when she was 21 years old.
